IT HAS BEEN PROVEN: YOUR SELFIES ARE LESS ATTRACTIVE THAN YOU THINK
Five minutes. That's how long your Amayzine editors think on average about making a good Instagram post or selfie. In particular, making that perfect selfie remains incredibly difficult. May just says that hers always fail and Jet is more into the ‘ussies’.
Sometimes I THINK I've taken a good selfie, but then I let it sit on my film roll for a day just to be sure. Only to think the next day ‘what the hell was I thinking?‘ when I see it. Taking a good photo of yourself is darned harder than parading around in Louboutins for a day. But fortunately, it has now been proven: selfies are overrated. You appear a lot less attractive in a selfie than you actually are.
‘Taking a good photo of yourself is darned harder than parading around in Louboutins for a day’
The University of Toronto studied the psychology behind the selfie. One hundred participants were shown their own selfies and asked to rate them based on how well they thought they would score on social media. Then, 178 strangers were allowed to rate the photo as well. What turns out? All selfie-takers had rated their attractiveness in the photo higher than what the strange audience actually perceived. In fact, many people do not find selfies attractive at all and even see them as a bit too narcissistic.
Okay, so you know what you need to do. The next time your hair looks ridiculously good, have someone else take that photo. It makes you more likable AND you get more likes from it. Win-win, people.
