How to

YES I DO. AND NO, YOU DON'T

things you need to know about wedding make-up

The wedding season is lurking again and that means we as an editorial team are really excited. We get very happy from looking at wedding invites, videos afterwards, and hours of searching for the most beautiful dress. But a little make-up is also quite important. You don't want smudged mascara when you shed a Máxima tear or wiped-off lipstick after the kiss. So here it is; the do's and don'ts in a row. And are you not getting married? The tips are also quite handy for the guests.

Do's

1. Want to have a trial make-up session? Wear a white shirt, so you can see how your look appears with a white outfit. Of course, you would look completely crazy wearing your wedding dress at your trial make-up session, so this is a great alternative. Oh, and have a photo taken in daylight.

2. Emphasize your eyes on the day, because that’s where you can really read the emotion . Whether you choose a smoky eye or a natural look, you should definitely opt for good concealers and primers, so that the attention really goes to your eyes and not to the bags underneath. Because we really understand that you won't sleep a wink the night before, but we don't need to see that on the day itself.

3. Color is quite important in your beauty look. Your dress is probably white. Your shoes too, and then your skin should provide a bit of compensation. That doesn’t mean you have to go through life like a walking rainbow, but you can definitely use a bit more gloss on your lips and cheeks.

4. Use really good brands and products for your look. You don’t want to leave home looking perfectly radiant, only to see all your make-up running off your face at the altar. Really choose longwear products, for both foundation and lip and eye products. It might cost a bit, but you’ll really enjoy it for years to come when you look back at the photos.

5. Focus on the most important points of your face. A flawless skin, the perfect eyebrows and lashes that reach the ceiling. If that’s good, then the rest of your look is definitely successful.

Don'ts

1. Go for a look that suits you and is timeless. Not for something that you’ll think in ten years: my goodness, how could I have done that? So nice, those furry nails and black lipstick, but if you go au naturel through life, I would do that on your wedding day too.

2. Don’t go to the hairdresser the day before and don’t get a spray tan so close to it. I understand that you want the most beautiful hair and a nice color, but it can turn out completely wrong. Think wrongly colored hair, think an orange glow. Do. Not. Want.

3. Don’t go too dark on your eyes. That can create shadows that make you look a bit more tired than you normally do, or it can smudge and wrinkle a bit, making you look unkempt. Are you a huge fan of a dark smoky? That’s fine too, but then an eye primer is your best friend. Next to your husband, of course.

4. Powder everything. So not just your face, but also your arms, your legs, your neck, and whatever else. There will be all kinds of photos taken from hundreds of angles that day, and you don’t want to look sweaty or shiny.

5. Hurry. Bobbi Brown says that you should set aside at least 45 minutes to get your make-up just right. So really pay good attention to it.
