SHOPPING DURING WORKING HOURS

Since we work at a fashion magazine we can quite convincingly argue that online shopping during working hours can be seen as work. We call it research. After all, we need to know what’s a bit hot and happening, and who knows, we might even get a nice post out of it.

So Jet is the master when it comes to The Outnet. She receives a newsletter every morning that tells her what’s currently hanging on the virtual shelves with big discounts, and if there’s a brand that’s a favorite of someone else in the editorial team, that gets mentioned right away, and so it can happen that we sit quietly shopping for half an hour. Um, I mean researching.

But yes, but yes, everything for the research…

And that often happens quite collectively. Then there’s extensive discussion about whether this or that pair of shoes is a good idea (almost always it is) and one can easily persuade the other to make that purchase, which is really completely unnecessary when viewed in any light. But yes, but yes, everything for the research. Also, things are regularly bought that are immediately returned upon arrival, but May already told you about that earlier.

Now, it turns out that research has recently been conducted into the online shopping behavior of the Dutch, and it showed that we are certainly not the only ones doing this. The most popular time to shop is 7:00 PM, but almost 40% of purchases are clicked home during office hours. Additionally, purchases most often take place on Mondays (weekend dip anyone?) and besides that 7:00 PM, a lot is also ordered at 1:00 AM. I suspect sleepless nights filled with bored online shopping.

Trust me, been there, done that. A lot.

So now we can explain our shopping behavior not only with our work but also with the fact that we are human. Everyone does it, after all. And that is always and forever the best argument.
