THE MAKE-UP TRICKS OF NAOMI DONNE
That will really make our lives a lot more beautiful
Two weeks ago, I met Naomi Donne from M.A.C Cosmetics. Yes, she from the movies Spectre, Chocolate, Zoolander and Cinderella. She who makes fantasy a reality and she who comes up with the coolest looks and then transforms them onto the faces of actors and actresses. And with such a background, such experience, and so many beautiful looks, we should just take her advice on how to make ourselves the very best version of ourselves.
Lichaamslooks
“Maybe I can better tell what people do NOT do well in daily life. Often, people really pay a lot of attention to their face, but they forget the rest of their body. That can definitely use a touch of paint too, you know. A bare little arm or a leg peeking out from under a skirt? What a shame. That really gives you different colors. It would be so much prettier if you take everything into account. That really gives a beautiful finish.”
Base
“Sometimes I find the base of many make-up looks really too heavy. It comes across as so extreme, making people look years older. Keep it very light and fresh, that is much more chic. And go ahead and work with highlighting. If you want your eyes to stand out beautifully or draw attention to your eyebrows, you can achieve that beautifully by highlighting. With shadows and corrections, you can draw attention to the right points.”
Powdering
“Powdering is very important. It ensures that your make-up stays on for a long time and that you don’t start to shine. If I go out the door without make-up for a day, I at least make sure I am powdered. It only needs to be a little, but it often looks fresh and nice.”
First the base, then the rest
“Many huge suitcases to a shoot with an enormous collection of beauty products. But when they go out the door, they leave those suitcases at home and always have a standard bag with essentials that are indispensable in their lives. Those just happen to be the ten items that you also really shouldn't miss in your do the eyes first, so that the face really stays clean for a nice base. I do it the other way around. First the base, then the attention to the rest. This way, I can better determine the colors and make the skin look its absolute best. Make-up then becomes much, much more powerful.”
Verlaat nooit het huis zonder…
“I find lips really very important and I really don’t go out the door without color. You can do everything with them. You can create a good lip, add some color to your cheeks, but also make your eye color stand out more if you put a bit of color on your eyelids. Red lipstick is really my all-time favorite.”
