THINGS YOU REALLY NEED TO KNOW FOR THE MOST BEAUTIFUL NAILS
This we do well and this we do wrong
Yesterday, the girls from OPI were here to give all our nails a fresh coat of polish. I can tell you that after the holiday, it's quite a nice start to the workweek. Aside from vacation, this is of course always amazing to start your workweek with. Desperately, I tried to paint my nails on Sunday evening to make a dazzling back-from-holiday appearance, but Monday morning, the duvet was really in the way and the rest of my nail polish was also in need of replacement. And when the girls from OPI are sitting across from you, you know you're in the hands of the best in the country and that you're immediately up to date on the do's and don'ts in the land of nails.
We forget the most important thing
The base coat. It is seriously very important. Often we skip it from our beauty ritual because it saves some money and it seems quite convenient in terms of time to skip it. But for the result, you really shouldn't skip it. The color adheres much less well to the nail, so you get less enjoyment from it. And your nail itself also discolors. So it's a color saver that you don't want to miss.
And then something important...
You better not leave out a top coat from your ritual either. It is a very important finisher. The shine becomes the most beautiful and the color you've chosen comes out wonderfully.
“Cheap cardboard files are often so rough that they are not very nice for the nails”
Long live filing
The biggest mistake made to shape your nails beautifully? They are cut. Shame. When you cut your nail, you have to apply some force: you hear a crack, and that ‘crack’ has indeed happened. Cutting is not healthy for your nails. Air gets between the layers of the nail and they start to peel. This can also happen from filing, by the way. Cheap cardboard files are often so rough that they are not very nice for the nails, and diamond files have a charming name, but are anything but that. Many files are extremely cheap, but just choose a good sturdy file and take your time, file in one direction and you'll get the most beautiful nails.
Color layers
Everyone wants that nail polish covers in one go. That is possible, but then you really have to apply it very thickly. And it does dry, but it doesn't harden. Two thin layers of color dry much faster and also hold the best. You will enjoy it the longest. It's also important to degrease the nail. Your nail contains natural oils and fats that need to be removed first. Compare it to painting; everything adheres better when it doesn't contain oil or fat.
Lazy lacquer
Cold blow dryers, cold taps; these are all great tricks to dry your nail polish. But they are only touch dry. The layers underneath are still far from dry. If you don't have patience, a dip dry works great. That's a drop made of silicone that sinks through all the molecules of the four layers. It dries and hardens as one whole. After a minute, it's often touch dry and after seven minutes, you can do everything again. However, it does depend on the color what the drying time is. Light colors typically need about five minutes, while a full black or dark gray with intense color pigments takes about 25 minutes to really dry.
Feet and hands
They don't necessarily have to match. But clashing is also not a good idea. That won't happen quickly, because you often choose a color that suits you. There is really a lot possible and combinations are also fun.
