THIS IS HOW YOU ENJOY YOUR MINI-BREAK THE LONGEST

In 4 wonderfully fun steps

Do you have children? Then you just got through your May holiday and it will take a very long time (and when I say a very long time, I mean a very long time) before it’s summer vacation. If you don’t have children, it might take even longer before you go on vacation, because you plan your trips outside of those annoying school holidays.

Conclusion: we all need a mini-break.

A mini-break (that’s a trip of at least two and a maximum of three nights away) can help you get through the rainy season. The fun part is that you are less critical about the destination with a mini-break. For your longer vacation, you want good weather, delicious food, nice people, and good shopping. A mini-break is already a success if a few requirements from your heavy package are met.

Even if a trip is only three days, you can stretch the enjoyment for weeks. And that’s nice.

1. Book well in advance

With every bike ride against the wind on a drizzly Tuesday, you think of that long weekend in Marrakech waiting for you. Or that city trip to Paris. Or that culinary weekend in Modena (where you will be here eating).

2. Reserve restaurants in advance

This way you know for sure that your table is ready at the coolest spot. And that already creates anticipation. We are going to New York in twenty nights (and then I will be visiting this secret addresses). I called Morandi in New York last night while doing laundry (no joke) to reserve a table. Preferably outside. And our favorite wine is already chilled. See, that’s what I love.

3. Tell it

Every single time. When someone asks how you’re doing, you say: I’m going to New York/Marrakech/Paris/Stockholm/Modena/Chilichap in twenty nights. If someone complains about the weather, you say: ‘I don’t care. I’m going to… in twenty nights.’ If someone says: ‘You’re so busy!’, you say: ‘I don’t give a damn. I’m going to… in twenty nights.’.

4. Make a photo book

I have imposed the rule on myself that I can only go on vacation or mini-break or whatever again once I have made a photo book from the previous vacation or mini-break. I am seven vacations behind, but so be it. My overactive neighbor makes her photo book during the vacation. When they come home, the photo book is already on the mat. Seriously. I will never reach that level, but making a photo book (even if it’s seven vacations later) ensures that your trip stays with you even longer. This way you make the most beautiful ones.

So I’m going in almost nineteen nights. When are you going?
