6 make-up blunders
(and that makes you look older)
A few weeks ago, I spoke with Lieke van Lexmond during a dinner. The heavily pregnant Lieke, who has only become more beautiful over the years if you ask me. Her beauty secret? She doesn't use powder because that makes you look older. Maybe just on her chin and nose, but not elsewhere. Aside from all that powdering, there are a few other beauty mistakes that we almost all make, which make us look older. And, I am also seriously guilty of one of the points...
Skipping primer
Ask any beauty artist and the answer will be: it’s all about the base. After using your cream, just a dab of primer over the face. This way, your makeup will also stay on better.
Using the wrong foundation
No extremely oily skin? Then stop using mattifying foundations right now. They can age your skin significantly. Instead, use a slightly more fluid version. A hydrated skin always looks younger and fresher. Otherwise, have your skin type analyzed at a beauty store to see which foundation suits you best.
Too. Much. Powder.
And yes, there it is again. Accentuating unnecessary lines is precisely what you don’t want, and guess what powdering causes? The opposite. Limit powdering to the oily zones of your face: your T-zone and possibly your chin. Everything around your eyes is off-limits.
Neglecting your brows
If you have beautiful eyebrows, you instantly look younger. Think full, think natural, and most importantly: well-groomed. Fill in the gaps with an eyebrow pencil, create a bit more volume, and tidy things up.
Just a bit about that black eyeliner
Oh gosh. I really need to be careful with this point myself. But often, black eyeliner makes your face look harsher and older. A soft smoky eye in a brown color, on the other hand, makes your face look younger (note to myself...).
Matte lips
Forget everything Kylie Jenner ever taught you; a nude lip doesn’t do much good for you. Period. Also for your mouth: hydration makes you young.
