Things to do with your sister before she turns 30
Last November we celebrated the thirtieth birthday of my middle sister. I thought it was quite fitting to make a list of everything you should actually do (if you have a sister) before she (or you) becomes part of those dirty thirties. Never in a million years did I think that this post would set a new record at Amayzine. But what it really showed is how much we all love our sisters. To wrap up the year nicely; the sister checklist:
Things to do with your sister before she turns 30
So I'm way too late with this, because my oldest sister is already 34 and my other sister turns the big 3-0 today, but hey, maybe these are more guidelines for them, because I still have about a year and a half to go. So dear sisters of mine, are you reading along?
The dirty thirties; we already have a number of ladies here in the editorial team who have reached their third decade, and I still find it an age where you should do something special for someone. Or at least check off a few things from your to-do list. And no, I'm definitely not talking about getting married and having kids – you can, but it's absolutely not a requirement. On today's to-do list are at least things you should do with your sister before she or you becomes part of the thirty-plus crowd.
1. Lie to your parents for each other
Is your sister way too late for an appointment with your parents because she has an intense hangover from the night before? Lie for her.
2. Go on a road trip
Definitely go on vacation with your sister(s) at least once. Whether it’s a road trip or a city trip or you’re going to hang out somewhere on the Costa del Sol; these memories will last forever.
3. Get drunk together
Because these twelve phases of getting drunk with your besties are just as fun with your sister.
4. Go to a festival together
Lowlands for example. Make it a whole weekend. Camping together, watching your favorite artists, dancing until the early hours... Just the anticipation is fun to experience together.
5. Get a tattoo together
And now hoping my mom doesn’t read this, but you’re already blood related, why not also linked by ink?
6. Share your deepest secrets
Because whether she agrees with you or not, she’s always got your back. But don’t forget that she will always be honest with you, so don’t get mad if you disagree with what she says to you.
7. Have a Disney marathon
Or at least a movie marathon with all the classics from your childhood.
8. Work out together
Well, the older you get, the more the pounds like to stick around. Schedule one or two fixed days to work out together (if you live near each other), then you motivate each other, stay fit together, and you have a good reason to collapse on the couch together in the evening with a bottle of wine without guilt.
And I would say: when you hit 50, read and repeat.
