Love & Sex

The three different types of bad men

And how to recognize the real gentleman

We all always fall for the bad guy. But can you blame us? They know how to charm you, are good with words, and know exactly what to do to make you hopelessly in love, and then poof, you hardly hear anything anymore. He has almost no time for you, unless it's 4 AM and Mr. needs attention after a few too many drinks. He's basically just a first-class jerk, but so irresistible. Does it make you happy? No, but there's a reason we fall for them, says psychotherapist Chiara Bijl via Lexa.nl.

‘Women are not the simplest beings. On one hand, they are often looking for true love: the man who cares for her, takes care of her, is reliable and gallant. On the other hand, we push aside the men who meet these criteria when it becomes too easy, boring, or not exciting enough,’ says Chiara. And according to her, there are three different types of bad men:

1. The egoist

He is exciting, independent, and very very hard to get. This is the guy you have to work hard to get his attention. He hardly listens to you, never shows interest in you because he mainly talks about himself. With him, you always come in second, well, maybe more like fifth place. He always puts himself first.

2. The admirer

He is a generous giver, sweet-talking, and overwhelming. Unlike the egoist, this boy does everything for you. He spoils you with gifts and expensive dinners, and while you might think that's the end of it; when all the materialistic things fade away, he actually has nothing to offer you.

3. The smooth liar

This guy is perfect, has good stories, and has everything together. At least, that's what you think. It may all look perfect on the outside, but inside, there's quite a bit missing. Do you feel like he only says what you want to hear, which is why you often catch him in little lies? Trust your gut feeling with this guy; there's a good chance he's still available on Tinder or Happn or whatever dating app there is. And if you confront him about it, he swears it's a mistake. Yeah right #boybye.

Alright, have you dumped the above types? Good, then there's only one left: the gentleman. He may not be the guy who blows you away at first, perhaps a bit awkward at times, but what he does have is interest in you. He is reliable, doesn't expect to jump into bed with you right after your first date, even makes sure you get home safely. Or at least sends a text to ask if you got home okay. Did you know that as a man on Lexa.nl you can get a badge indicating that you are one of the good guys? Ladies, I'm telling you: this will save you so much time. And heartbreak, of course.
