Battle of the balms

Am I the only one who is hugely addicted to everything you can put on your lips in winter? Winter means dry lips, means applying, means in my opinion even more flakes, means even more applying. It's a vicious circle that's hard to escape once you've started. And since I'm already in it (I fear it will last another month or two), it's time for the big lip balm test today.

Brand? Clinique (sweet pots sugar scrub & lip balm)

Effectiveness? These sweet pots have two functions. One side contains a sugary substance with which you can scrubbing, the other side is a nourishing lip balm. It actually stays on quite long. Extra points for the shine.

Packaging? HELLO, that macaron shape! Incredibly Insta-proof.

Brand? Eos (lip balm)

Effectiveness? It's a trend from America: the lip balm balls. The ones from Eos are firstly super cute, but also feel nice in the hand. The balm makes the lips quite soft and it's nice that you don't have to dip your finger into a jar (read: bacteria), like with Vaseline for example. Downside: it does smell like a bubblegum factory.

Packaging? Is it an Easter egg? A sex toy? It's definitely intriguing.

Score? 6.5. Eos, come with less sweet scents, and I’m your girl.

Brand? Vichy (repumping lip balm)

Effectiveness? This could be a very addictive product. It's a bit thick, but feels not sticky at all. It smells great, and once you apply it, you just want to keep applying.

Packaging? Could have been a bit more exciting, but it's also nice and familiar, and don't forget: don’t judge a book by its cover.

Score? 9, new favorite in the making.

Brand? Vaseline (sugar coated, limited edition)

Effectiveness? Unlike the normal Vaseline in blue packaging, this sweet variant has a sugary taste. Not bad, but just a bit too sweet for me.

Packaging? Pink! Love it.

Brand? Nuxe (ultra nourishing lip balm)

Effectiveness? This is a somewhat stiffer, thick balm. It smells incredibly nice and gives a subtle shine. Available in ‘Rock’, ‘Glam’ and ‘Nature.’ Contains at least 78 percent natural ingredients (honey, sunflower oil, musk rose and sweet almond, shea butter, hmmmm).
Packaging? The prize for the cutest packaging of the day goes to… these friends of course. Very cute with those little lips. The jar itself also feels chic.
