The best outdoor cinemas in the country
Every time I plop down in a cinema seat (yes, with popcorn, yes), I promise myself to go more often. If necessary, alone. Still, I don't do it. In the summer, I prefer to plop down on a cozy terrace or invite friends over for dinner in the garden. Still, nice weather shouldn't be an excuse. After all, we live in the Netherlands, ha. But did you know that this summer you can also just watch a movie with your feet in the sand from your own beach chair? Or from a picnic blanket in the park? And if it does rain heavily, a drive-in cinema still has something quite romantic about it... What am I saying? Quite romantic? I believe I can't think of a more romantic date. I already have the list, now just a nice man…
1. Pleinbioscoop, Rotterdam
For no less than nineteen summer evenings, you can watch movies outdoors in the heart of Rotterdam. Bring your own loveseat or rent a folding chair for a euro. The screen is humongous, so even in row twelve, you have a perfect view. Of Ryan Gosling. Yep, La La Land is the opening film.
2. Zienemaan, Groningen
In September, you plop down at Zienemaan at the old sugar factory in Groningen, with a crackling campfire after the credits. Okay, now I want to go to Groningen, with a bottle of good red wine and a bag of marshmallows, you understand.
3. Sunscreenings, Amsterdam
On a beautiful, sultry summer evening, you plop down in the sand at Pllek, where they not only serve the tastiest drinks, but where the bean bags are also so comfortable that you'd rather just close your eyes after the movie. Do come on time, you won't be the only one, by the way. And don't forget your earplugs...
4. Cinema in the sand, Utrecht
This summer, various events are organized at the city beach in Utrecht. Yes, even for your movie, you can stick your feet in the sand here.
5. Vue Openlucht Filmfestival, Apeldoorn
This year, the Vue Openlucht Filmfestival is 25 years old. From August 11 to 19, you can watch the most beautiful films on the grass for no less than nine days. But really the most beautiful. Because you understand that I've been peeking at the program for a while. We have to go to Apeldoorn, Elkie….
6. Rooftop Movie Nights, Amsterdam
Not only is watching movies romantic here, just for the gigantic view over the city, a visit to Floor17 is worth it.
7. Rooftop Cinema, Utrecht
In the rain, you can comfortably crawl into a cinema hall, but if the temperature rises above twenty degrees, head to the roof of cinema CineMec. And don't forget the popcorn...
