The most beautiful fashion films and documentaries

Autumn means lounging on the couch under a wool blanket and doing nothing else all day but watching movies and series. At least, that's what my Sunday looks like today, and if you have the same plan but no idea what you want to watch, then I’m more than happy to help you out. If you want to get into the spirit of Halloween a bit, then I’d like to refer you here. Then we also have the longest movies ever made or some comedy. But today a bit of inspiration for all fashion lovers with the most beautiful fashion films and documentaries that are definitely worth watching:

The September Issue

It is suggested that The Devil Wears Prada is about Anna Wintour, but this documentary follows the real Anna and what her life and that of Vogue looks like. If you ever want to know how things really work in the magazine world, I would definitely recommend this one.

The First Monday in May

Once again a documentary with Anna, but this time it’s about the famous Met Gala that takes place every year on the first Monday in May at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. An event for the most important people in fashion and also a huge list of celebs comes every year in the most extravagant outfits to Anna’s most famous event.

Coco Avant Chanel

Everything by Marion Cotillard I have to see right away. In Coco Avant Chanel, she plays the role of Gabrielle Chanel in the lead-up to becoming the world-famous designer Coco Chanel.

Dior and I

A look into the world of Dior, when Raf Simons took over from John Galliano, who got into trouble after making anti-Semitic remarks. The choice to put the Belgian at the helm was very remarkable for many, and with Dior and I, they follow him and show how he creates a haute couture collection in two months.

Saint Laurent

This biographical film starring the French Gaspard Ulliel takes place from 1967 to 1976, when Yves Saint Laurent was at the height of his career.

Annie Leibowitz: Life Through a Lens

This documentary, made by sister Barbara, is about one of the world’s most famous portrait photographers, Annie. Also known for her theatrical and provocative images, this doc follows the career of the lady who is actually just as famous as everyone who is in front of her lens.

Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel

One of the key ladies behind the success of American Vogue (where she unfortunately also got kicked out), but also a lady who ensured that fashion became a respected art form. Oh yes, and let’s not forget some of her most brilliant quotes. ‘A little bad taste is like a nice splash of paprika. We all need a splash of bad taste – it’s hearty, it’s healthy, it’s physical. I think we could use more of it. No taste is what I’m against.’ This is definitely one to watch.

Bill Cunningham New York

The man behind the popularity of street style photography. Liesbeth was once lucky enough to meet him (check here but) and this doc shows how he worked, rain or shine, and even when it was snowing heavily outside. A hero of the streets of New York.

L’Amour Fou

Once again something about the French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent. This time a documentary with the story of one of the men in his life who knew him best: his great love Pierre Bergé.

Have a nice weekend!
