The longest movies to get you through the weekend

Feeling like a nice lazy weekend? I get you, I get you. I just had a move and my plans for this weekend: being a couch potato. You can choose to just binge movies (horror, comedy or based on true stories) via Netflix, but perhaps you're in the mood for something different than what Netflix has to offer. I’m at your service with another new list, this time with movies that you definitely need to sit down for a few hours and where a popcorn overdose is completely allowed. Happy binging!

Blue is the warmest color – 3 hours

In other words: La vie d’Adèle. This is a French arthouse film that won the Palme d'Or at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. It revolves around Adèle who meets the lesbian Emma (with blue hair) and how her life drastically changes from an innocent high school student to a sensual young lady. This film is about discovering love, but also about friendship between two women.

The Wolf of Wallstreet – 3 hours

For a nice dose of Leonardo DiCaprio, I would definitely put this one on. The Wolf is the true story of Jordan Belfort and how he became one of the richest stock traders through fraud. A film filled with enough sex, booze, and drugs, directed by the always brilliant Martin Scorsese.

Magnolia – 3 hours

Alright, a bit too complicated to summarize briefly, but it takes place in San Fernando Valley where multiple characters (played by among others Tom Cruise and Julianne Moore) are all intertwined.

Schindler’s List – 3 hours and a quarter

This 1993 film is an adaptation of the book of the same name about Oskar Schindler, a German businessman who decides to use his factory as a refuge for Jews during the Nazi regime. A true story in which he managed to save around 1100 lives from the gas chambers of Auschwitz. Tip for this one: it is beautifully filmed, but I would definitely make sure you read the book beforehand.

Gone With The Wind – 4 hours

Also known as one of the most romantic films that exist. At least, I think so. You can here read all about it.

Nymphomaniac – 4 hours

Originally released as two separate films that were later made into one. This is the film if you are looking for something uh, well, I want to say: disturbing, but let's just use a different word. If you're looking for something different. This is the story of nymphomaniac Joe, who shares her erotic life with a man who saves her after she is left beaten in an alley.

Lord of the Rings 1, 2 and 3 – together about 9 and a half hours

Ha, why not watch them all in a row if you’re not planning to go out? And while you're at it, why not follow up with The Hobbit films? You can add another 7 hours.

La Meglio Gioventù – 6 hours

Tip from May, and almost as long as a full workday. The lives of Nicola and Matteo, two brothers, are followed from somewhere in the late sixties to the present, and it also tells how a girl with a mental disorder changes their lives.

The Godfather 1, 2 and 3 – together about 9 and a half hours

Another trilogy for a hefty binge session. So, almost ten hours to spare?
