Why you want to travel with your Mutti now
Good afternoon my ladies (and gents, come on, I don't discriminate). With a little bit of jetlag still in my head, I've taken my old familiar office spot again after a thick week in New York. If you missed it, read here especially back how my deflowering in the Big Apple was. Something intense, grand, and amazing. And the best part about this vacation? I was with my mother. For the first time in eight years traveling together again. And I can actually recommend everyone to just do this old and familiar thing again. Why traveling abroad with your mother is the best ever?
You can just be yourself
So that means no makeup if you really don't feel like it. Being a bit grumpy when you wake up is also okay, because she knows you. And lying in bed at ten o'clock? That's fine too when you're out with mom.
Going on an adventure together is great for the bond
Traveling is experiencing new things. At any moment something cool, exciting, and beautiful can happen that you don't expect. The adventure always beckons. The giggles too, by the way. Should I remind you of a certain piece of clothing that spontaneously disappeared at the Empire State Building, mom? (An inside joke that really can't stand the light of day, HAHA.)
She will always do everything for you (and is your personal doctor)
Because you are her flesh and blood. If you have a shoulder ache, she suggests massaging it. And then you can comfortably lie drooling on a bed without it being weird. Got a headache? Mom pulls out aspirin from her bag. Mothers, they are heroines.
Because you don't have to be afraid to have a little ‘fight’
Traveling with a friend is awkward to bicker, with your mother a little arguing is just part of it. Especially when you've been together 24/7 for more than five days. You can never stay mad at her for long and she can't at you, and then you laugh about it together again.
You build a different bond
You can finally talk about things you normally don't have time or inclination for. And trust me, in 7 hours of non-stop chatting on the plane, you learn a lot from your own mother that you didn't know.
Shopping with your mother is the most fun
Because your boyfriend never has the patience to shop during a city trip. And maybe, if you're lucky, she'll whip out her debit card too. Hehe.
You have a personal photographer with you for your Instagram
Because moms will understand if you say that photo really needs to be taken again because you were downright unhappy with it.
But: you finally have nice photos together
Look, those snapshots together at the annual barbecue at uncle Peet's are eh, also fine. Nothing wrong with that. But together in a world city? A metropolis of architecture, flickering lights, cool outfits, and cosmos? Those are photos you don't often take with mom, right? And that's why it's extra fun.
