9x why your mother is a real boss
‘Mamaaahaaaa, you always put that in your cooohooonttt?’ As a child, I apparently had the urge to flash my mother in the supermarket when we walked past the tampon aisle.
Mothers are special beings. Oh dear, what have they had to endure with us. As a child, you will never understand why they sacrifice themselves for their offspring for years, but they do it. With love, for years, and your mother is of course the best on earth. And here’s why…
1. Because she helped you with last-minute outfit stress anyway
You can still see yourself running around the house in a panic looking for That One Dress. After which she always found it or offered a piece from her closet. All the last-minute laundry aside.
2. Because she cooked for you every evening after work
The moment you move out, you suddenly realize How. Difficult. Cooking. Is. How does she come up with something different every day?!
3. Because she always listens to you
To all your stuff. All your life troubles. Fights with friends, that bizarre nightmare, and your dreams for the future. She pricks up her ears, takes it all in, and then gives advice. Like only moms can.
4. Because she survived you as a teenager
And didn’t kick you out of the house. That’s worth an award in itself. And yes, she also had to hold your hair back when you were already puking over the toilet. Heroine.
5. Because she came up with games so you wouldn’t get bored in the car as a child
On the way to France, a little gift every few hours. Colored pencils, a troll doll, or slime to stick to the windows. How sweet is that actually?
6. One word: birthday
She made a grand spectacle out of it. Every time again, it was the best day of the year. Of course, she didn’t come up with corny stuff; in between the businesses, your mom made the best crafty creations and your candy treats were totally the best.
7. Because she always took you to
recorder lessons, hockey, that friend you had a sleepover with… Secretly it was somewhat taken for granted, but what if she hadn’t done all that?
8. Because she dressed you in dalmatian costumes in the ’90s
Comfortably on the day you had to take school photos, complete with crimped waffle-iron hair. But hey, now you have something to laugh about together when the photo albums are taken down from the attic. Secretly, you think this was always her plan.
9. Because she (okay, mine) says things like this on vacation I tell you: brilliant. Moms are cool.
