Why our weekend is sacred

Everyone has dealt with haters on social media at some point. Now I often try to ignore that negativity, but when I see the comments under a post from Bibi Breijman, I am ashamed to the core: what drives people to spread so much hate about someone? This inspired Diesel to create a true ‘Hate Couture’ line, with amazing items that turn hate into strength. Many celebrities support the campaign and wear the collection with a personalized hate text that hits like a bomb! Bibi proudly wears the text ‘attention whore’ and gives all the haters a big middle finger. You go, girl!

Our weekends have now become sacred with the family: phones off, taking a nice walk in the woods, and cuddling 24/7 with Otis, to then cook extensively for friends in the evening. This weekend, Jon took that very seriously. He had received a beautiful sous-vide gift for Father's Day (read: that thing has been gathering dust in the cupboard for over four months), which allows you to slow cook dishes. So on Saturday night, a piece of meat was cooked that was grilled the next evening with great care on the barbecue (with whiskey infused wood, my man loves to show off) and then resulted in the tastiest pulled pork sandwich. I can't wait to see what Jon will prepare next weekend.

Some perfumes stimulate your memory so much that you immediately think of a person or event from the past. As soon as I smell Chanel No. 5 , I find myself in Thailand with my godmother who has worn this scent for years. The iconic transparent bottle with a white/black label always stood on her washbasin, and secretly I would spray some on my wrist and then had to smell it every second of the day. For the limited edition, that beautiful bottle is now fire red, which now proudly sits as a sort of shrine on my own washbasin. I immediately bought two, as the perfect Christmas gift for my godmother.

Now that the days are getting colder again, I can't wait to put cheese fondue and mashed potatoes back on the table. And those light wines can also be swapped for fuller flavors. Now, I am quite a fan of a nice gin and tonic from time to time and have found the perfect winter variant. With the whiskey infusion and orange bitters, it tastes like pure winter in a glass. Cheers!

  • 50 ml Grand Marnier
  • Tonic water (I love elderflower tonic)
  • Lots of ice
  • A slice of orange
  • Stir well and use raspberry as a garnish.
