the Dutch beaches are the most beautiful
While you read this, I am somewhere in Southern Italy. I guess at Guna Beach, one of my favorite beach tents a bit stealing style from the Italian ladies around me. But I already know that I will occasionally think with a heavy heart of my own (not much of mine, but I love going there) Wijk aan Zee, because in Puglia I first have to descend forty steps to reach a strip of beach. Really, we don't realize half how blessed we are with our beaches.
The length
We may have a small country, but just look at that enormous coastline filled with beach. From the Wadden Islands along Bergen, IJmuiden, Wijk aan Zee via Zandvoort and Bloemendaal down to The Hague, all the way down to the Zeeland islands.
The width
How often have you been on a beach that is as wide and deep as ours? Of course, they exist, but cherish your coast. Our beach is usually at least fifty meters wide. Wonderful.
Sand!
No pebbles, no black lava sand, no hard grains like at some beaches in Ibiza where you get instantly scrubbed; just lovely, soft, and clean sand. Gently sift through it with fingers and toes and you can call off that masseur.
Beach clubs
What a disappointment I found that. I was in Los Angeles and had been looking forward to a day at the beach. Starting with a juice, ending with a cocktail, and in the meantime lying comfortably on a bed in the sun. Nothing, really. People come and go. Surf a bit, exercise a bit, and then leave. And drinking is not allowed in ‘public’, so really no nice drink is brought to your bed (which weren't there either). Of course, there are countries with beautiful beach tents, but in Italy they are often a bit outdated and the best beds are claimed by local families. I'm not saying you can't find nice places to lie anywhere in the world, but the concentration of nice beach tents with a good menu is high in our country.
The endless days
It must be because we don't have an abundance of beautiful days, so when we have sun, we go en masse and make the most of it. It's party, party, party on the Dutch beaches. From early in the morning until we all can go home satisfied after having had a great time.
By the way, we think the nicest beach tents in the Netherlands.
