The latest trend: choose your seeds carefully
Okay, speaking of the craziest trend in food: I think this is a contender. Adjusting the seeds and nuts you eat to your cycle. Some chia in your break week, a walnut around ovulation. Something like that? Our neighbors from FavorFlav explain it to you in detail.
Cider vinegar in a glass of lukewarm water for breakfast, oil pulling to cleanse your mouth, and eating clay for better bowel movements. Even before one health hype is over, the next one is already at the door. Are you already familiar with seed cycling?
Actually, I shouldn't care about all that health nonsense, but since I found out that açaí bowls are actually fucking delicious, I sometimes sneak a peek at what else is happening in the world of health. Actually, not much comes out of it, except that I eat kale now and then and put ginger in everything. But that's just because I like it. Earlier this week, this quest led me to the unknown trend of seed cycling: adjusting the seeds you eat to your menstrual cycle. What??
Happy hormones
When I google it, the first hit is ‘Seed cycle: your way to happy hormones’. That promises a lot of good. If there is a lack of balance between estrogen and progesterone, this apparently can cause PMS, cramps, headaches, an irregular cycle, and acne. Not fun. The only thing you need to do about this? Eat flaxseed and pumpkin seeds for the first two weeks of your cycle, and for the last two weeks, go for sesame seeds and sunflower seeds. This way, you get just enough zinc, omega 3, and your liver gets some help with detoxification.
Five seed crackers
What are people even thinking? How much of these seeds do you actually need to eat to counteract complaints? Is a scoop of granola every day enough, or do you really have to work spoons of that dry stuff down? Apparently, a tablespoon per type of seed suffices; there can't be that many nutrients in it, right? This trend raises a lot of questions for me. Anyway, here is a recipe for crackers with five different types of seeds(chia seeds are included for free). I haven't found anything about not being able to eat all the seeds at once. So eat these crackers every day on your way to happy hormones.
