We are better looking than we think:

we underestimate our own beauty

When you find yourself complaining in front of the mirror because your hair is frizzy, you have a red spot on your chin, or because your teeth aren't white enough: take it easy.

Because seriously: we massively underestimate our own beauty. We are actually better looking than we think, as scientific research shows. That other person doesn't see those bags under your eyes the way you do. And that other person also doesn't see what size pants you are actually wearing. Or that you haven't shaved your leg hair.

Ideal image in your head

What's going on? According to psychologists, we all automatically have a lower self-image. How unpleasant. And while we are allowed to be here. Especially when it comes to clothing sizes, we have a distorted view of ourselves. We tend to overestimate our own looks, while someone else finds us slim and beautifully shaped. We are too hard on our lovely bodies, girls.

This all comes from the fact that as humans, we always feel like we are missing something. That there is always something better. That's not necessarily a bad thing, because it keeps you improving yourself, but every now and then it's good that this kind of research exists, because it shows once again that you can give your own face some credit. And that you are a stud from the pub definitely worth it. Thanks, scientists.

Stop sulking

Because it's time for a change. Even our partners find us better looking than we do ourselves. They don't even see that little roll of fat. In our heads, the standards are set very high. We quickly think that only size 34 or 36 is beautiful, that only cup C is a bit sexy, and that only a hourglass figure counts. And that models on Instagram look like that every day. But those standards are way too high and moreover, they are not based on reality. Most women do not meet this list of requirements at all. In fact: almost no one. You can still find someone incredibly attractive even if she has completely different measurements, so why not yourself? That’s the question.

The strange thing is: we often find other girls just plain pretty when we judge others. Put a photo of yourself next to that of a female colleague or a friend and the chances are high that you find her hotter. We quickly feel uglier than the other and that only lowers our self-image even more. Why does she have such a beautiful hair color? Why does she have long black eyelashes? Why does she have smooth skin and perfectly polished nails?

HELLO. Something with unjustified jealousy? Because the chance is that that other girl finds you very pretty. A vicious circle, but not good for your self-confidence. And that's why we want to wake you up a bit. Stop doubting in front of the mirror. You got it, girl. Now you have one last mini-task: be happy with yourself.
