Why all men look the same in a selfie

You can recognize the male selfie by three things: very high eyebrows, big eyes, and a pursed mouth. Go ahead, scroll through your friends' accounts. Bet you’ll come across a few of these faces?

The reason for this has a logical explanation, says body language expert Traci Brown. They pull their mouths because they feel uncomfortable. That’s why men make it look like a forced smile. While it used to be common to smile broadly with lots of teeth, we are evolving due to the overload of photos we take. Women vary therefore from slightly pursed lips to sucked-in cheeks, while men between their teenage years and middle age go for this variant. Apparently, this is because they doubt their place in the world. Yes, what a selfie doesn’t say about us. The expression is neither cheerful nor grumpy, but a bit confused and surprised.
