News

You may only forward a few messages via WhatsApp later.

Wow, funny text. Or what a quirky little news item. Nice photo. Quick, in the family group chat. And in the group chat for work, friends, and the sports club. Just copy-paste; we do it all day long.

Because that message will be forwarded to you again. And when something is fun, you want to share it with everyone in your WhatsApp list. It's much more enjoyable that way. Just enjoy it while you can. Meanwhile, people can already see when a message has been copied. But it’s all going to get even worse, friends of the digital life. Soon you’ll only be able to forward a specific number of messages per day. Just a few, that’s it. WhatsApp is going to set limits: that mass clicking, pasting, gluing, and copying is over. WhatsApp is doing this mainly to combat the spread of dangerous fake news.

Alright, alright, we get it. But come on. We should be able to forward the latest bikini tops to our friends all day and share world news in the work app, right? How else are we supposed to exchange information in 2018 if it can't be done via the app? Should we go back to the old-fashioned way… emailing? Facebook chatting? Skyping? No, wait. We have a brilliant plan.

We need to go back to pinging. Remember, pinging? With the good old Blackberry? God, what a party that was. Chatting with everyone whose ping name you knew, how cute. And you could also put a whole story in your name, just like on MSN. That you’re @work or @thegym or that you’re @goingtothebarontheleidseplein or that you have a weekend. Or that you’re having a coffee. Or that the little monkey with its hands over its mouth is your favorite emoji or a slogan like ‘Enjoy your day’. Anything goes in your ping name. The nostalgia.

If all the big shots at Apple read and share this message, we’ll be there in no time. Thanks in advance. Because we need to do something without forwarding on WhatsApp, right?
