FINALLY: Gossip Girl is officially back

Gossip girl blair and Serena

Hey Upper East Siders, I have news for you about Manhattan's Elite. THEY ARE BACK. This is not a drill, the bullet has finally gone through the church. We can have lunch again on the steps of the Met. Drinks at Butter. Shopping at Henri Bendel. Destructive relationships à la Chuck and Blair, also known as Chair. Hot but meaningless types like Nate. Pancakes in the loft with Dan and Rufus. Living in hotels like the Plaza because your own ‘little house’ is being renovated. Blair's revenge actions. Parties at the Empire Hotel. Summers in The Hamptons. Of course, the outfits. Oh, the outfits. That stylist also really likes to provide me with some sets. And of course the gossip, because it remains Gossip Girl. Spotted: the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s Elite.

It has been buzzing for years about the gossip. A reboot could come at any moment. Well, I was a bit skeptical, but last night, without warning, there it was: the news. Gossip Girl. Is. Back. First, let's get the facts straight: it’s a season of ten episodes that will be available on HBO's new streaming service. Right, the streaming service that is also causing Friends to disappear from Netflix (no stress, not yet in the Netherlands) and where it is far from certain that we can continue to follow other HBO series on Netflix. Ouch. Netflix, you’ve met your match.

Producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are also back, so that nostalgic Gossip Girl feeling will be just fine. Whether there will be a cameo for Blair or Serena, that remains to be seen. Given the actors' schedules, it doesn't seem very likely, and while I definitely want to see Blair's snark . ‘Google revenge and you get BlairWaldorf.com,’ says Dan Humphrey. And is Gossip Girl actually complete without someone saying ‘I’m Chuck Bass’? No, right? So we want cameos. We want to see Serena step out at Grand Central Station and then get texts about it. Lonely Boy finding her flip phone and scoring a date. ‘You can’t be any worse than the guys I do know.’ By the way, she was a bit wrong there, since Dan turned out to be GG after all (how so?).

The Upper East Siders are being replaced by a new group. A new Queen B, although I hope they still go to Constance Billard. And Gossip Girl will no longer work with group texts in the reboot, but will mainly operate via social media. Now, Gossip Girl was already quite progressive with that (with particularly sharp photos for the bad phones they had), but with apps like Instagram, the gossip can spread even faster. Brooklyn has also become quite hip, so Lonely Boy really doesn't have to be ashamed that his dad has a place there. Well, it's not Upper East Side, that's true.

When can we expect this reboot? Next week would be too long to wait. Because people, we've been waiting here for eleven years. Eleven. Years. Unfortunately, HBO is taking it nice and slow. The streaming service will go online in early 2020, so before that moment we won't see our favorite Upper East Siders back. Bummer. But hey, all seasons are still just on Netflix. I know what I'm doing today. XOXO.
