After fifteen years, A Cinderella Story finally gets a sequel

Well, who didn't grow up with this? I must have watched A Cinderella Story a thousand times in my teenage years. And oh, how I wanted that flip phone that Hilary Duff had and casually hook it in my shoe (has anyone seriously ever tried that? Feels a bit like a trend that never caught on). And of course texting with Nomad609 a.k.a. Chad Michael Murray. In other words, the ultimate hottie of the 2000s. For fun, also check out the movie's soundtrack, which consists of 80% gems from Hilary Duff. The other 20% is Jesse McCartney and the song I’ll Be (which they danced so romantically to), an album you really should have in your collection.
A sequel came, featuring a very young Lucy Hale. She played an aspiring singer who wanted to be successful, but her two mean stepsisters kept throwing a wrench in the works. Unfortunately, this film didn't quite achieve the hoped-for success, and I think many would rather pretend it never existed. Just like the other two or three ‘sequels’ that absolutely no one has seen. Fine, no problem. Certainly not because now, fifteen years later, A Cinderella Story finally gets the sequel it deserves. And to top it all off, it's also a Christmas movie. Ho ho ho, looking forward to it.
The movie will be called A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish. The lead role is for Laura Marano, Katherine in the film. She plays an aspiring singer who wants to be successful, but her two mean stepsisters keep throwing a wrench in the works. Um, yes... In terms of story, not exactly original, but neither was The Hangover after three parts and we kept watching that too. So no whining. The stepsisters and stepmother force Katherine to work as a singing elf in the Christmas park Santa Land. Honestly, force? This sounds like my dream job if I had been a nightingale. And Katherine turns out not to mind this side job too much in the end; she falls in love with Santa Claus. A perfect Christmas Carol, with probably a very sweet happy ending. In other words: the Christmas movie you want to see. Christmas is just for romantic happy endings, Christmas songs, and the most sugary films. It has been that way for years and we’re certainly not going to change that now.
With a bit of luck, A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish will come out a bit earlier for Christmas, because even though this year is flying by, December still lasts a while. Until then, shall we dive back into Chad Michael Murray and Hilary Duff? Thinking back to times when a nickname like Diner Girl was still common. And you know it: never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game. XOXO.
