OMG: Elsa comes out in Frozen 3

Disney, I love you, but you are not always completely up to date. Tiana, the first princess of color, only appeared in 2009, and when it comes to the LGBTQ community, they have always been very quiet. But there seems to be, finally and honestly: long overdue, an end to that. And how; a princess from one of their biggest hits ever seems to be coming out. Yes, the one and only Elsa.

Just a side note: this seems to be happening in Frozen 3. And yes, you heard it right, we have been waiting for six years for Frozen 2.  Hence the long overdue, because at this pace we will only find out for sure in 2025. But hey, it’s the thought that counts.

Rumors are circulating that the coming out should have actually been in part 2 but the creators found that a bit too fast. They also expect a ban on part 3 in several countries. Ridiculous that this would still be the case, but everything points to Elsa eventually meeting her true princess. And that is really nice.

By the way, it may not be the very first time that Disney shows an LGBTQ couple: in Finding Dory we see two fish that both look like a mother. Back then, Disney didn’t dare to clarify whether this was indeed a couple.

There has always been a lot of fuss around these kinds of topics on TV and film, so here are a few more facts in the same category:

– 2011: The first sex scene in a TV series was in “our” GTST, between Lucas and Edwin

– 1977: The first homosexual character on TV was Jodie Dallas (Billy Crystal) in the series Soap

– 1994: The real-life series on MTV, The Real World, was the first with an HIV-positive man (Sean Sasser), and also had the first same-sex ceremony on TV

– 1996: The first lesbian couple marries on TV in Friends. Carol and Susan were just not allowed to seal the marriage with a kiss, because that went too far…

– 1971: The very first homosexual porn film with credits was released, Boys in the Sand

– 2019: Marvel introduces their first LGBTQ character in the superhero film The Eternals
