The 5 tips for summer make-up

The season of thick and matte coverage is over, thank goodness. We make way for airy, glowy, and transparent make-up. In winter, you tend to have more spots on your skin, dark circles around your eyes, and your skin looks a bit grayer, and we prefer to conceal that, I understand. But with the sun shining (I hope) a lot in summer, your skin produces vitamin D and you come alive. You get more color in your face which makes you see everything a little less. Freckles come out, your skin produces sebum, which is the natural protector against the sun, and that gives you a glow. And believe me, you want that glow.

Kim Kardashian says about her sister Khloé to Nikki Tutorials: ‘She put highlighter on a bare face, and everyone was like: ‘Wow you’re glowing!’ People don’t get it. They think you’re literally glowing, it’s the trick of all f*cking tricks.’ And if Kim says it, then it’s true. That’s what we want this summer too. Away with that too thick foundation, make way for the lighter BB creams, bronzers, blush, and highlighters. Here are some tips for your summer make-up look:

BB cream or CC cream

Beauty Blemish, that’s what the B’s stand for. Make sure to use one with a high SPF, nice coverage, and moisturizer. If you’re used to foundation, a BB cream is a bit thinner; it feels much lighter on your skin. If you have more redness in your skin, you can also use a CC (Color Correction) cream. Here in the editorial office, we are big fans of the CC Cream Complete SPF50 from Chanel.

Bronzer and highlighter

Use a soft bronzer, preferably without glitter. When the sun shines on your face, you don’t want to look like a disco ball, and it’s also impossible to create depth. Apply the bronzer and try to avoid the Indian stripes on your cheeks. Try to spread it as naturally as possible over your entire face and don’t forget to include your neck. The bronzer from Lancaster Sun 365 has an SPF and is perfect for blending with its four different bronzer shades. It’s also wise to use a highlighter without too much glitter. Use one with a nice natural glow. For example, M.A.C Cosmetics has the Whisper of Gilt. Use this highlighter on your cheekbones, the top of your nose (not on the tip), and also lightly sweep under your eyebrows and the edge of your upper lip.

Blush

If you were born with a natural blush, then you’re lucky. But if you don’t have that, use a light pink or coral-colored blush. Your blush can stand out in the summer, so don’t be too stingy. From NARS, you have the Exposed Cheek Palette to give your cheeks a nice color or new in the collection from NYX Professional Makeup: the Hydrating Cheek Tint, a blush in stick form that also feels wonderfully cooling.

Eyes

Keep your eyes natural, don’t use harsh eyeliners or dark eyeshadow, but apply a little mascara and a light color eyeshadow. I’m a fan of the Paint Pot from M.A.C Cosmetics. It’s waterproof and stays on all day. In summer, the ‘Let’s Skate’ is a favorite. This light pink color with a soft glitter in it gives a fresh look.

Lips

Color, color, color, especially when you go to the beach. Choose a nice peach color or go for fresh red. Prefer to play it safe? Then use the gloss from Clarins, which is one that cares for your lips and colors and shines beautifully for a long time.
