The 7 reasons why The Perfectionists will become your new favorite series

Waiting is rewarded... Because there it finally was, the new trailer for The Perfectionists a.k.a. the spin-off of Pretty Little Liars. March 20th will finally see the premiere of the first episode and we can't wait any longer. Pretty Little Liars completely derailed in the last seasons (how many twin sisters can a village have? Cece is Charles? Did the mothers ever come out of the basement?), the first seasons were absolutely binge-watch worthy. And we actually expect exactly the same from The Perfectionists. So keep in mind that your social life will be on hold starting March 20th, as this series will surely be filled with unraveling theories, false clues, and episodes with cliffhangers. We're already ready for it. If you need some convincing; we've lined up all the reasons for you.

1. Mona and Alison are both back. That fact alone is enough reason for me to watch it, because Mona was definitely my favorite character from Pretty Little Liars. Mona was of course the original A and also the best. Although the British twin sister of Spencer is not hard to surpass; that was particularly bad, I must say.

2. New is not always better. Comfortably familiar, season 1 of The Perfectionists also revolves around a murder that the new group wants to solve. And here too, the group itself is suspected of the murder, and the group is also not the perpetrator. However, we secretly hope that this series will be a little less of a yes-or-no case like with Alison (who of course turned out to be very much alive after we believed for FOUR seasons that she was really dead).

3. And that new trailer is already full of drama. We see a teenager pouring a drink for themselves (alcohol problem?), a garbage bag over a pointed fence (body?), a dead rat in a box (uhm... what?), two boys passionately kissing (forbidden love?) and of course badass Mona who is everywhere. And meanwhile, Alison wonders if it’s ‘okay to kill a murderer’. Is it already March 20th?

4. Okay, this is still just a rumor, but there is a chance that Shay Mitchell a.k.a. Emily Fields will also make her appearance. We ended Pretty Little Liars with Alison giving birth to twins that came from Emily's eggs (seriously, if you read this: the last season of Pretty Little Liars was really all over the place), so it would make sense if her kids including Emily were at least mentioned. Now Shay Mitchell has been violently out YOU of work, so we see opportunities here.

5. If you watch Pretty Little Liars now, it’s already quite outdated here and there. Nowadays you have apps like Instagram and Snapchat and with that A would of course operate very differently. And The Perfectionists cleverly taps into that: the lead actress Ava (Sofia Carson) is a blogger and wannabe fashion icon. Fashion was already good in Pretty Little Liars, so we are curious about what outfits they will come up with now.

6. What Pretty Little Liars always managed to portray well was the strong friendship between the Fantastic Four (and later including Alison), and The Perfectionists also revolves around close friendship. It’s also refreshing to see a series about real friendships, alongside all the relationship drama.

7. Another familiar face but from a different guilty pleasure: Kelly Rutherford also makes her appearance. Are you thinking: huh, who? She played in Gossip Girl the mother of Serena: Lily van der Woodsen. Secretly I hope she will play the ultimate ‘Upper East Side mom’ again, because honestly: I can't really see her any other way.

And, are we excited yet? I have a spoiler for now, which you of course already knew if you read the book. The person who gets murdered is Nolan Hotchkiss, who is described as a handsome womanizer. The Perfectionists jokingly come up with a plan to kill him and have to get out of it when it turns out that he actually dies, in exactly the same way they had planned.

Are you looking for a series to distract you from the fact that we have to wait until March 20th? We understand. And we also have a solution for that: Sex Education. And when the first season of The Perfectionists is over, the second season will begin. Problem solved!
