This is great news: a Peaky Blinders movie is probably coming
Yes, dear Peaky Blinders viewers, you have of course already finished season 5, haven't you? That season that has been online since last Friday. Yes, that one that only had six episodes. Much. Too. Little.
And yes, the same Peaky Blinders of which season 6 will not be seen until at least the end of 2020. What the hell, makers? Some sites even predict early 2021. Well, I don't know, but that's still about another year and a half. That doesn't seem to be the intention, does it? Well, we'll wait and see, we don't have many other choices either. The makers are not really stepping on the gas with that lollipop, but they do have a steady future plan for the fookin’ Peaky Blinders. And that is quite nice.
It was already known that they want to make a total of seven seasons of Peaky Blinders. Yes, I hear you thinking: at this pace, that means we won't be able to watch that last season until 2022 or 2023. That indeed takes a long time, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. As Marco Borsato beautifully sang: saying goodbye does not exist. And after season 7, we probably won't have to do that either. No, dear people, they are just going to throw in a movie afterwards.
The plan is to end in the lead-up to World War II. So it's still a wait and see whether that would be in the seventh season, or if they save that for the very last and we will see that situation on the big screen. The creator Steven Knight also plans to let the character of Cillian Murphy, Tommy Shelby, ultimately come to repentance. “My intention has always been to ultimately make him a good man who does good things.” Hm-hm. I don't know if that has completely succeeded.
Just a little extra tidbit: the original plan was to stop after season 5. That would have meant that it was now finito with Peaky Blinders. Fortunately, they realized in time that the series seemed to be quite a hit (it has also been promoted from BBC Two to BBC One this season) and two extra seasons were promised. There is now speculation about a potential movie. I think all of this is very good developments.
