Why we are toasting today to the second season of Chateau Meiland

About half a year ago, no one had heard of it, but from the first episode at the end of May, it was a hit. Flamboyant Martien is of course the centerpiece of the success that is called Chateau Meiland. And yes, I’m also on board, you know. I find this delicious TV. And because Martien, just like me, also enjoys a glass of wine, I have come up with a number of reasons in the Chateau Meiland spirit why we should toast to the second season. WINES, wines, wines. After all, it’s already five o'clock somewhere in the world, so uncork that bottle as far as I'm concerned.
Reason number one is that the second season is coming much faster than you might have thought: it actually starts on August 26. That’s less than a month away, indeed. Understandably, given the popularity, SBS is putting the pedal to the metal. The chateau was also quite stormed by onlookers, but that’s not something Martien appreciates. Only come by if you’re also staying overnight then. Ah, a good excuse for a night away then.
Number two: I wholeheartedly wish SBS that they finally have a little success. Many celebrities were a bit shamed for making this switch, especially since the successes were not even countable on one hand. It’s a bit ironic that this ultimate first success has nothing to do with the presentation of a celebrity or some game show. But hey, they have a ratings hit and I wish it to them. Cheers.
Now we come to three. The marriage of Martien and Erica may not seem very obvious to many, they are now married for the third time and are very happy. Yes, Martien is attracted to men, so that will raise many eyebrows. Erica and Martien are very open about their marriage and I find that quite refreshing. They understand that it’s not a situation that is considered ‘normal’, but they are not ashamed of it at all. Rightly so. You do you. ‘I’m crazy about that man and I dare to say that this is mutual. What does it matter then?’ says Erica. You go, girl. Again cheers.
By the way, can’t get enough of Martien and Erica and really don’t want to wait until August 26? See if you can conjure up an old Ik Vertrek from the archive, as the couple participated in 2006. They also started a (successful, that should be mentioned) B&B back then, until Erica got homesick. I’m going to track it down anyway. Last reason? Guys, it’s Friday. CHEERS.
