11 juicy facts about Love Is Blind

Love Is Blind is the best show of 2020. Yes, I can say that already. It just is. I can't even discuss it anymore. You hear the name of the show and you think: this will probably be one of the thousands of dating shows again, but then you start and see that it is so much more. Messica (also known as Jessica) obviously steals the show, Mark lives up to the title by literally acting blind, Barnett has been my new crush since the release, Amber has definitely had a bit of a crazy moment, and Cameron and Lauren have made me believe in love again. Was that it? Well, absolutely not, because I found myself in the world of Reddit last night where there is a lot of juicy stuff about Love Is Blind that I didn't know and you probably didn't either. But I am a lot happier now that I know these fun facts... Here they come.
OH WAIT, first some really good news. You can now sign up for the second season in Chicago. How fun would it be if there is a Dutch person in it? Sign up. Hoppa. Can be done via this site, you just have to answer 53 questions.
1. In total, there were eight couples after the ten days engaged
EIGHT. The creators themselves did not see this coming (they thought maybe one or two) and therefore there was no room for all eight couples in Mexico. So it was decided who would provide the best TV and the other couples were sent home.
2. Speaking of Mexico… Kelly and Kenny came as replacements
Because Diamond and Carlton could no longer really get along, they went home. So a quick replacement had to be arranged and that became Kelly and Kenny. The rest of the cast didn't even know that Diamond and Carlton had been in Mexico until after the recordings.
3. The other two couples were Westley and Lexie, and Rory and Danielle
Westley had hardly any screentime, but this is the guy who at the very beginning of the first episode said he was insecure about his height. Quite rude, because after that he was never seen again. Lexie was the yoga teacher. Rory and Danielle have another juicy story: they got engaged and went on vacation to Miami with their own money. There, Danielle found out that she had feelings for Matt, another participant of Love Is Blind. She left Rory for that. Honestly: this love triangle would have been much more interesting than Kelly and Kenny?
4. Besides Barnett and Mark, Jessica had another man in the pods
This was probably not aired due to airtime, but Messi – sorry Jessica, had another suitor in the pods: Taylor. We heard this man say something exactly once in the whole series and that was that he was still a virgin. Which was actually a joke, and edited that way by the producers. Nice then, that's your ten seconds of fame. A thirty-something virgin.
5. Jessica's dog was at the vet during the first recordings
’At night, Jessica went to her dog (and was quite tired during the day). Very sad, but what I found quite funny was that when this leaked, it was specifically mentioned that it was NOT due to alcohol poisoning. That she fed her dog wine was a one-time thing, she said herself.
6. Those who had zero matches or a click with others were sent home after a few days, which is why we ultimately saw very few people; many of them were already home after three days.
7. Kelly does not actually have a very standard job
She was portrayed in the series as a strong businesswoman, she was a ‘life coach’, and she had to go straight to a ‘business trip’ after Mexico. Now that's not entirely true: she actually ‘works’ for Beach body. I put work in quotes because Beach body is known in America as a multi-level marketing company, or a pyramid scheme. They are known for recruiting new members with beautiful promises, who ultimately end up deep in debt. Quite unfortunate, Kelly.
8. Jessica wanted to stop the show after Mexico
That was a bit to be expected, of course, since Mark and she had zero chemistry and she threw herself at Barnett every chance she got. So she actually wanted to stop the show after Mexico, but she was persuaded by the producers to continue. Why is unclear. Maybe because otherwise she couldn't earn any money from it? Or because the producers would portray her in a very bad way otherwise (although that still happened). Anyway, that does explain her drinking habits a bit.
9. Mark was not very popular with the cast members
Cast member Andy (who wasn't really seen in the series) opened up about his Love Is Blind experience on Reddit and said that Jessica came off worse on TV than she really is, and that Mark is a ‘shady person’. Hmmm… Juicy. By the way, several cast members have not spoken very positively about Mark.
10. The participants had no idea who the star players would be
Cast members Andy, Aly, and Rory did extensive Q&As on Reddit. Um… Who? Yes, exactly. Many participants hardly got any screentime and that was a surprise for them as well. That the show would focus so much on the remaining four couples (five, if you count Carlton and Diamond), no one knew. So all the other participants were also excitedly watching Netflix and found out that they were completely cut out. Ouch.
11. Every participant had to sign an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement)
And there are very specific things in it, such as that no participant may reveal where they actually slept during their time in the pods. Very strange, since they were allowed to share quite juicy stuff otherwise. But where they actually slept remains a mystery.
