Party, because First Dates is back on TV

Awkward TV remains the most fun there is? Of course, a good series is nice and all in its time, but dates that absolutely have no click... It just remains delightful to watch. Recently, I already made a plea about Lang Leve de Liefde, or the best program currently on Dutch TV, they are getting their serious competitor back. Because yes, First Dates is returning to BNN. When? MONDAY. As in: August 31. As in: just four more nights to sleep.
And do you know what makes the already awkward First Dates even more awkward? Corona, of course. The one-and-a-half-meter society. The ‘new normal’ (which I really find the most disgusting concept ever). And yes, even in the First Dates restaurant – which is actually just a warehouse in Amsterdam-North – that distance must be maintained, no matter how much those couples like each other.
So can you picture it? That date is already awkward, and then you also have to continuously keep that one-and-a-half meters apart. EVEN AT THE TABLE. The dates are almost shouting at each other because of that large distance. Hilarious. Also, ‘the moment of truth’, where they have to tell each other they want to see each other again, happens with a plastic screen in between. Completely understandable, because it would also be such bad publicity if First Dates turns out to be a source of corona infections.
And for us viewers, therefore, all the better, because this season is going to be the most awkward of all. I’m sure of it, I can feel it in everything. By the way, do you feel less like keeping that distance? Then watch Love Island every day starting Monday, where they are all just in quarantine on an island. No distance they need to keep there, you know.
