Very good news: Hjem til Jul is getting a sequel

Yesss, it was THE series that made all the not-so-fun Christmas obligations a bit more bearable. Don't get me wrong, Christmas is cozy (and a lot of food), but sometimes it's just too full of must-dos and I can really enjoy a moment of rest. With Netflix. Of course, with food on the couch – it's still Christmas, right? And the surprise of this year in terms of binge-worthy series was really Hjem til Jul, or Home For Christmas. Originally a Norwegian series, but in the Dutch Netflix it has been dubbed in English. And even that didn't bother me much.
Quick refresher: Hjem til Jul is about thirty-something Johanna, a single nurse who spontaneously blurts out to her family that she has a boyfriend. A boyfriend she now has to bring to the Christmas dinner. So, a little problem. And the search begins. Hilarious dates where just about every activity comes up and she even accepts a sauna visit as a date. Can't go well. In the spa, she also runs into her parents. Naked. Can't go well 2.0.
But then comes THE moment, the Christmas dinner, and Johanna has no man after all those dates. I can't blame her either, because there's really nothing fun in between and you can't say she didn't try her best. But then. But then. The doorbell rings. The door is opened. Johanna smiles, seems very satisfied, and says goodbye. And then… The End. WHAT? Is it not happening? Huge cliffhanger because who on earth is the mysterious doorbell ringer?
I'm not completely surprised that the second season has just been announced. Not surprised, but very happy, because I just want to know who is at the door. And you probably do too. It would have been quite frustrating if they had left it at that one season. I think I would have sent a complaint to Netflix. But well, it doesn't matter now: that second season is fortunately coming. You can probably guess the moment: Christmas 2020. Another lovely distraction amidst all the Christmas obligations. I must say I'm still recovering from all the food, but this makes me already look forward to Christmas.
