Can't we just leave Marco and Leontine alone for a while?

Patty Brard announced last night on Shownieuws as a scoop: Marco and Leontine are back together! Huh? Really? Yes, Leontine's car was parked in front of Marco's penthouse in Alkmaar on Saturday night. Yes, the two watched the interview together that evening. Yes, Leontine only drove home the next morning and therefore spent the night at Marco's. We even have proof!

The photographer first spotted both Leontine's car and Marco's in the parking garage under Marco's home. They stayed there all night. Then the two drove, each in their own car, to Leontine's house. Marco helped her with her weekend bag and then went inside with her. According to Patty, this is the ultimate proof that the two are reunited.

Imagine being the photographer who thinks: hey, I'm going to post up at Marco's house. Then you see her car. Then you let out a little scream, come back to that spot the next morning at the crack of dawn (or maybe stay awake all night?) to witness that the cars in question are still there. YES!! That you clickclickclick your proof, immediately get on the phone with your magazine's editor-in-chief (maybe you're your own boss, by the way) and feel proud of your scoop. That you look at yourself in the mirror in the evening and think: well, that was another nice workday. I just can't imagine it.

Honestly: it seems to me terrifying to be that famous for that reason alone. That having a private life is no longer for you. That you think three times before discussing problems with friends, not knowing if someone will spill something that could harm you. That your dirty relationship laundry is suddenly out in the open and that all of the Netherlands has an opinion about it without knowing you. That you almost have your house boarded up with high walls and cameras and pergolas, all to protect yourself from the paparazzi. The same press that once made you so great is suddenly out to make you feel small to score big with scoops, exclusives, and stories. Something painful like an affair can never be handled well. If you're Humberto and you don't say anything for too long, you're not doing it right. If you're Marco and you give an interview, you're also not doing it right. Of course, the men in question have made a stupid mistake that has hurt their loved ones immensely, but since when are we people only out to catch others on their behavior? Do we also take a good look in the mirror?

No. According to the management of both Marco and Leontine, the two are not back together. And even if they were, there are still three children involved. They do confirm that Marco and Leontine indeed still get along ‘very well’, as the singer also indicated earlier in the interview. According to management, there is (still) no talk of a vacation together. And even if that were the case, should we let those people figure it out for themselves? I'm getting a bit tired of that breathless disaster tourism behavior.
