Director reveals what season two of Squid Game will be about

Squid games
This is a matter of time, you would think? With the mega success of Squid Game, literally unmatched in the Netflix world, it can only be that there will be a season two. And I want that too. I think. I have mixed feelings about it, because can that bizarrely good first season keep up a bit? I'm always afraid it will be a disappointment. Now the end of season one really left enough room for that second season and that must be for a reason, but now the director himself has also opened up about what that possible second season will be about. Warning: mild spoilers incoming.

Because season one ended, of course, with Gi-hun suddenly having red hair for a very short time without any explanation, but then he took back his own hair color and thus did NOT get on that plane. Seriously, I would rather write this sentence with so many curse words in between, because he should have just taken that flight. That whole first season he ultimately did not really experience any particular growth or development: he is still a shitty father. But well, he thought it was a better idea to grab his phone and threaten the organization behind the Squid Game and make them a promise that he would track them down and destroy them.

So yes, that is definitely something we will see in season two: Gi-hun trying to find out what this organization really is. I actually hope we won't see too many of those VIPs, because that was the only downside of the whole series, or at least make them a bit more believable. But what I find much more interesting is the following plotline: 2 would mainly be about the Front Man, the man with the black mask. This is a former police officer and according to the director, that is an interesting history to dive into. He says about it himself: ‘I think the issues with police officers are not only in Korea. But this is an issue I want to bring up: maybe I can tell more about it in season 2.’

We will see them again, just like Gi-hun. But don't count on more returning from the first season: these will be the only two. Perhaps others will return briefly in the form of flashbacks, but that's it. Fans also have a theory that Jun Ho (police officer and the brother of the almighty Front Man) survived his fall — and bullet — and joins Gi-hun to take down the organization as a team.

Hmm. On the one hand, it sounds really cool, especially the history of the organization and the story behind the Front Man, but I am a bit wary that it will be disappointing. So far, that second season is just pure speculation, but there will surely be a change in that soon. Curious about your thoughts on this, because maybe I'm worrying for nothing.
