The designer ABC

The designer ABC

Say your love for fashion, then you say Fashion Week, and say Fashion Week, then I say: team Milan. From the colorfully dressed off-duty models to the designers behind the brand: te amo Milano. But who are all those designers exactly? And who belongs to whom? From Dolce & Gabbana, Donatella to the rest; I’ll take you through my very Italian ABC.

The A is for Alberta Ferretti

Where Alberta opened her first boutique called Jolly in 1968, she has now blossomed into a girl boss who steals the heart of the fashion crowd every season. And you understand: when Bella Hadid is also eager to walk your runway, then you are aaaaaaaan.

The B is for Bottega Veneta

You know, from the Stretch Sandal and the Jodie and Cassette Bag. But especially from the insane hit The Pouch clutch. Like duh, that Bottega Veneta is the pride of Italy.

The C is for Chiara Ferragni

In other words, our fashion friend. She is cool, became famous with her ‘The Blonde Salad’, sits front row as standard, has a wardrobe that I will dream of my whole life, and since 2013 she has been the designer of her own brand (you know, with a very cute eye as a logo). A case of love Chiara, and I can imagine it won't be long before her pieces will walk the runway at MFW.

The D is for Dolce & Gabbana

Of course, the D is for D&G. Do I really need to say more? This is and remains the designer duo Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana from Italy.

The E is for Emilio Pucci

You say Pucci, then we say in chorus: color. And geometric prints, a lot of geometric prints.

And from Emporio Armani

From Giorgio Armani to Emporio Armani: haute couture, RTW, watches, jewelry, makeup, perfume, interior, and even a hotel: Armani has it all.

And from Etro

What’s so nice about Etro? The fashion house is run by a big Italian family. And okay, the always cheerful and flowy boho dresses and summer suits also play an important role, moe-ha.

The F is for Fendi

In other words, one of the biggest fashion brands from Italy at the moment. Made possible by the ‘KAN I F’ print, fluffy face bags, and forever the oversized sunglasses.

The G is for Gucci

Gucci has certainly had a bumpy ride. After Guccio's death in 1953, his son Aldo took the director's chair. He has big ambitions and knows how to take Gucci abroad. The success becomes greater than ever before, but suddenly the fashion house finds itself in serious trouble (read: Guccio’s grandson Maurizio – who succeeds his father and grandfather as director – is murdered by his ex-wife). Bizarre, right? Ultimately, it is Tom Ford who makes Gucci a fashion muse again and with Alessandro Michele at the helm, who likes to take leaps into the deep, Gucci these days is at its coolest.

The M is for Max Mara

And look here, here and here why.

And from Moncler

You say Moncler, then I say snow. The name Moncler is an abbreviation of Monestier-de-Clermont, a village in the Italian mountains. The first jackets were made to protect workers from the cold, no wonder we prefer to wrap ourselves (and look cool, made possible by the designer team) in Moncler during the winter cold.

And from Missoni

Exactly: the colored, often knitted zigzag print.

And from Moschino

Of course Moschino. From Barbie to McDonald’s and from Picasso to Spongebob: Jeremy Scott, designer of Moschino since 2013, continues to surprise us season after season at the next level. And scare? He does that too, but we still stick with team Moschino.

The P is for Prada

Every season, Prada arranges a new must-have on your wishlist (with this season, yes, the it-bag of 2021. One of the largest Italian fashion houses is and remains Prada, founded by Mario Prada and today at the helm none other than Miuccia Prada. Well, Prada or nada...

The R is for Roberto Cavalli

Where it all started with designing his own clothes, signore Roberto himself opened his first clothing store in Saint-Tropez in 1972, where he became known for his prints on leather items. And yes, the rest is history. Go Cavalli.

The S is for Salavatore Ferragamo

In other words, the stiletto man. Because although Dior believed in it for a while, it was Salvatore Ferragamo who came up with the solution for ‘going up’. He inserted a thin metal rod into the heel to act as a pillar, in Greek ‘stylo’. And yes, there it was: the stiletto heel. Of course, those high heels are now just a small part of Salavatore Ferragamo, but still a fun fact, right?

And from Sportmax

The sporty sister of Max Mara.

The T is for Tod’s

Founded in 1900 by Diego Della Valle, Tod’s has been providing the most beautiful classics for the fashion lover from the very beginning. And yes, today it is still the moccasins that remain forever a favorite.

The V is for Valentino

Where we are still grateful to Mr. Valentino Garavani who decided to establish a fashion house in Rome in the late 1950s. From the most beautiful haute couture artworks to the coolest ugly dad sneakers: love for Valentino is something everyone has.

And from Versace

Last but certainly not least: V to the ersace, where we conclude with a not so happy story: In 1997, Gianni Versace was murdered in front of his house on Ocean Drive in Miami and Versace was taken over by his sister Donatella and brother Santo. And whether this is a good duo. From Britney Spears to Lady Gaga; many celebs walk away with aunt Dona and her rather prominent Versace prints.
