Kanye West buys his own social media platform

What do you do when you keep getting kicked off Instagram and Twitter for your striking (understatement of the year) statements, but you are still a very rich guy? Exactly, then you buy your own social media platform, right? At least, that's what I think Kanye ‘Ye’ West's thought process was, who has reached an agreement with the social media company Parler. This is a platform similar to Twitter, which was available online until last year. Then it was immediately removed from various App Stores: Parler was no longer available through the Apple Store, Google Store, or Amazon. The reason for this was that Parler holds rather particularly conservative views. Ah, a match made in heaven with Ye then. Additionally, the entire site was eventually taken offline because, according to internet providers, it did not do enough to prevent the spread of hate speech and potential violence on their platform. Quite the cozy situation.

Ye himself says about it: ‘In a world where conservative opinions are seen as controversial, we must ensure we have the money to express ourselves freely.’ And the people at Parler are more than happy with their new partner. According to them, this purchase by Ye was a ‘groundbreaking move towards freedom of speech in the media and we will never have to be afraid of being taken off social media again.’

A telling detail: Ye was spotted at his fashion show with Candace Owens, a woman who holds quite conservative and downright racist views. They both wore a shirt with the text ‘White Lives Matter’, which (logically) received a lot of criticism. Candace Owens' husband is George Farmer, the CEO of Parler. So there's a good chance she facilitated this new collaboration.
