The career trend of 2024

By

According to experts, the job market will change significantly next year and we will really have to get used to it. These changes are likely to be permanent, as will our adjustments to them. Therefore, experts predict that in 2024 there will only be more freelancers. A trend that we have already seen emerging in recent years, but it will only increase; freelancing is expected to become as popular as being employed.

And with that freelance existence comes of course some uncertainty, but also freedom, and that freedom will play an even bigger role next year due to the growing freelance community: working from home or remote work is becoming even more the norm. In my environment, I see that this has somewhat reversed after corona and that working in the office has even become mandatory here and there again. According to predictions, that will actually decrease again in 2024; working from home allows employees to better balance their work and private lives, which is very important for happiness.

The pitfall is of course that the boundary between work and private life blurs because you do it at home. Remote workers also often miss opportunities that are discussed in the office and find it difficult to remain as engaged with colleagues who do see each other face-to-face. Effective communication will therefore be more important than ever next year.

What the trend will be in the field of careers? That is the ability to adapt effortlessly to the ever-changing market. And that can mean two things: that you will upskill or reskill.

Upskilling means learning new skills so that you can perform your current role even better and have more to offer within your current industry, while reskilling is about learning completely new skills that provide you with opportunities in a completely new industry.

The most important thing in both cases? That your mindset is focused on growth, because that is what it ultimately all comes down to. By continuously adapting to that changing market, you will also continue to grow. Staying flexible and thinking in solutions will be the secret to a successful career next year.
