Joran van der Sloot has confessed

After eighteen years, the family of Natalee Holloway can finally stop grinding: Joran van der Sloot has confessed. He has murdered Natalee Holloway on the beach. That is what he stated to the FBI. He allegedly did this by first kicking her and then hitting her with a rock. He had of course confessed before (in the car with Patrick van der Eem, for example), but this confession was deemed ‘credible’ by the FBI — which has been investigating this confession over the past months. Joran was also subjected to a lie detector test, which indicated that he was telling the truth (although those things are of course not one hundred percent reliable...).
If you are surprised that Joran has seen the light and finally wanted to share what he has on his conscience: nope. This confession was part of a deal with the American justice system.. Currently, Joran is in custody in Alabama and has to appear today because he has been charged with extortion by Beth Holloway, Natalee's mother. A confession would mean that he only gets twenty years, and he can serve that in Peru, where he was already imprisoned for the murder of Stephany Flores. That means he has a chance of being released in 2045.
The case is therefore coming up today, and that is why I actually hope we will hear more details. Because to be honest: ‘on the beach’ sounds so vague that I actually think the family had already concluded this themselves, although it will make a huge difference if it finally comes from his own mouth. But what I am especially curious about is: why?! And now I begin to fear that we will ultimately never really know that.
The lawyer for the Holloway family, John Q. Kelly, also announced yesterday that a confession from Joran would not mean that a new search would be organized for Natalee's remains. Remarkable, and hopefully something we will learn more about today regarding how this decision came about.
