Just about that Blessing Way ceremony of Jessie Jazz

It was another Insta-scroll moment where you suddenly found yourself in an intimate and intense moment, going from a vacation picture on the left and a toast with an Aperol Spritz: the Blessing Way ceremony of Jessie Jazz Vuijk.

Uh, help me out: Blessing Way?
Yes, that's a ceremony that the ancient Indians held for women who were transitioning from woman to mother. Usually, you do this around 33 weeks of pregnancy. A kind of spiritual baby shower.

And what does that look like exactly?
In the case of Jessie Jazz, you saw a belly decorated with flower petals, a rose on the magical gate (yes, the one you're thinking of now) and all the women around her stroking her with roses and an older guru beating a kind of drum mantra. I admit: it was a bit intimate to see, but it is actually a beautiful ritual.

What do you do during such a session?
Women who are important to the pregnant woman come together, they organize a women's circle where they share stories about their childbirth, they decorate the belly (like with Jessie Jazz where it was decorated with flower petals, but body paint can also be used), create a birth altar with small gifts for the baby (think: moonstones and other small non-materialistic happiness), a lunch, and possibly singing.

And this is how the journey from woman to mother is blessed. For Jessie Jazz, it was a way to share that she is now turning inward. Off to that pink cloud and bringing a beautiful son into the world. We'll wait.
