The moment of Coachella that everyone is talking about

By
Performance of Zendaya and Labrinth at Coachella

Coachella 2023 is officially over, although it will probably continue for days (weeks?) on my TikTok feed. And I don't mind that at all, because it feels a bit like I'm there. I can especially marvel at the many TikToks that come by where people talk about how much they spend on food and drinks: bizarre. What chicken wings for 30 dollars, a loaded fries for 22 dollars, and a lemonade for 16 dollars… I knew Coachella was expensive, but that you also have to take out almost a second mortgage for the event itself I didn't quite expect.

It's all worth it, as I see the vlogs. The first weekend of Coachella was mainly about the reunion of Shawn Mendes and Camila (they became the unexpected headliner), Bad Bunny, Rosalía, and the somewhat disappointing performance of Frank Ocean. After seven years, he would finally perform again, in both Coachella weekends. He only did one and canceled the second weekend, started way too late, and then didn't continue because Coachella has strict end times. Side note: Calvin Harris also once dealt with this end time, but decided to continue and just pay the fine out of his own pocket. Sympathetic.

Frank Ocean was replaced as headliner by Blink 182, but that's not the act everyone is still talking about on Monday morning. That is actually the set of Labrinth, who managed to get Zendaya to sing two songs with him. Labrinth is a British singer (I think the song Genius, with Sia, is really amazing from him) and especially for him, Zendaya did a little Frank Ocean (but good), it was actually her first performance in seven years.

She sang the songs I’m Tired and All For Us, but it was hard to understand above all the screaming. Yes, Zendaya is very beloved and that became clear again this past weekend. The song All For Us was previously used for the series Euphoria; Labrinth composed the soundtrack there and then Zendaya and he wrote the song All For Us together. Fans were already hoping for a surprise appearance, but because it had been so many years since Zendaya was on stage, no one really expected it.
