Oh no: MAFS Australia is under fire

Oh no, I'm really bummed about this. I look forward to the new season of Married At First Sight Australia every year; it's time to spend a full-time work week watching these episodes again. Of course, it will never be as good as season 6 (I'm still in love with Mike and I'm still bummed that it didn't work out between Heidi and him), but even if it's not a 10 anymore, MAFS Australia remains a solid 8.
But now my favorite show is under fire and I'm not happy about it. It's still too early to draw any real conclusions, as they are currently filming; the new season won't be aired until January. There's just a lot going on around one participant: Ella.
Ella is a ‘blonde bombshell’ with a big heart. A beautiful woman, so what's wrong with that? Nothing at all with her, but with the way they have treated her. Ella is a trans woman and the groom doesn't know that; he only finds out after the wedding.
MAFS Australia is now under fire because they apparently didn't ask the groom during casting how he would feel about marrying a trans woman and whether he would be open to it. Viewers and media are now afraid that he reacted very negatively when he found out that Ella is a trans woman, which of course won't be taken lightly, but it's also a certain negativity that the trans community is definitely not waiting for. And rightly so.
Because how nice would it be if the makers had talked extensively with the potential groom beforehand (they spend hours on interviews before you are actually cast) about being with a trans woman? That Ella is matched with a man who is completely okay with this and is very supportive of her? Whether it ultimately becomes love or not, it would of course be great if this wouldn't be the dealbreaker with her future husband. And if it is, then I bet there will be a gi-gantic shitstorm coming his way.
So we still have to wait until we can see it ourselves, but I actually expect that the makers of MAFS Australia will come up with a statement before that time. To be continued...
