Too fun: your mother can now swipe for you on Tinder

It was my mother's and my favorite pastime during my single days: I signed up for a dating app and she swiped left and right on my phone looking for her ideal son-in-law. Not that a successful match ever came out of this (read: my type is tall, dark and handsome, my mother's type is dull, boring, and a bit tacky). Still, we are not the only ones with this hobby. According to a study by Tinder, over 75 percent of young singles discuss their dating habits multiple times a month with their friends and family, and according to another study, it is actually helpful to take their advice from time to time. So I recently wrote that it is very good for you to occasionally look outside your own type and that this can even lead to a happier love life.

Swiping for each other
Tinder has heard that trend and has jumped on it immediately, and successfully: you can now add up to 15 people to your Tinder profile who can swipe on your behalf. This new feature is called Tinder Matchmaker and is now available in 15 countries, including the US, Australia, France, and Germany. Not yet in the Netherlands, but don't worry: this feature will be made available worldwide in the coming months.

This is how it works
Users can directly start a Matchmaker session by sharing a link with up to 15 friends or family members. These participants then have 24 hours to recommend profiles before the session ends. And don't worry: matchmakers cannot chat or send messages to your potential dates, you still have to do that yourself.

After swiping
Once the Matchmaker session ends, the person whose profile it is can see which potential dating candidates their matchmakers have suggested. Profiles that the matchmakers like are marked as a ‘recommendation’, but you still have the final say on who you officially like in the app. I personally think this is a-ma-zing and hereby demand to be added as a matchmaker to all the profiles of my single friends. And even though it might be a bit exciting to let others swipe for you, it could very well be your first step towards a sparkling love life.
