Netflix tip of the day: Have a nice weekend

Not exactly an appropriate name since the weekend has literally just passed, but we are of course already looking forward to it again. Fijn Weekend is a nice feel-good movie that might even make you shed a tear. And: it’s Dutch and genuinely fun, which you don’t experience very often anymore.
Fijn Weekend is about a group of friends who travel together to the French Burgundy to scatter the ashes of their deceased friend. However, this trip goes a bit differently than expected, as the widow of this friend decides at the last minute to bring her new boyfriend along. They certainly didn’t see that coming.
I always find a setting like Burgundy a big plus and it makes me feel like I’m on vacation right away. This film is directed by Jon Karthaus, who also directed the latest version of Costa! and Bon Bini Holland. So you already know: you don’t have to think much about this, so your brain can take a break and you can mainly daydream about a wonderful destination.
By the way, such a nice destination is not enough for an entertaining film, because I still sometimes have nightmares from F*ck de Liefde, which took place in Curaçao. That film is actually leaving Netflix this month, and I think Fijn Weekend is more than a decent replacement. Compared to that film, this one deserves an Oscar nomination.
