Why You Should Watch Rocketman on Netflix

Just as you sometimes crave food but have no idea what, I sometimes have a desire to watch something but no specific series that calls out to my eyes. I had that on Friday when Rocketman appeared in the offerings. I clicked and was blown away.
Rocketman tells the life story of Elton John, who was then still named Reginald Dwight. A quiet, sensitive boy growing up in a middle-class environment with a hardened father who ignores him and a mother who is more concerned with parties and finding a boyfriend. His grandmother, who lives with them, is the only one who truly sees him and encourages him to play the piano.
Wonderkind
Touching is the scene where his grandmother takes him to the conservatory where he can audition for the Saturday school. The teacher plays a piece by Mozart and stops halfway. When she asks little Reginald to play something, he plays the same piece. ‘Why did you stop?’ she asks as he pauses. He is silent. ‘Because you stopped here too...’ He had never heard the piece before and played it by ear.
Addicted to everything
We see Elton from the rehab clinic where he talks about his life and how it all came to be. Addicted to drugs, alcohol, shopping, sex, and food. That's all him, he says. What caused it? The constant rejection from his father, a wrong love, the pressure of fame, and the screaming loneliness.
That one friend
Who remained loyal to him, who continued where he left off and vice versa. Bernie Taupin who wrote the lyrics to which Elton composed songs. A golden duo that never had a fight in all those years. Both boys still lived at home and sent each other lyrics and music compositions by post.
The end: Spoiler alert
At the end, we see that Elton has found a man with whom he has been happy for many years and has two children. He has been sober for 28 years and free from his addictions. Except for one... The shopping addiction, that one has remained fun.
