# dared to ask: can participants of MAFS say ‘no’?

We're really enjoying Married At First Sight again. Especially now that the Australian version has started again.. I can just watch all week long and you won't hear me complain about that at all. I have to admit that for me it really only starts after the weddings, because I sometimes find those a bit boring. You already know what's going to happen (they both say ‘yes’) and what they actually think of each other only becomes clear during the honeymoon. But is that really so obvious?
So that's not too bad; there is seriously an option to say ‘no’. I suspected a stranglehold contract where you're completely stuck until the end of the series, but nothing could be further from the truth. De Telegraaf inquired with the producer and they said that the candidates can stop the experiment at any time, they can even say ‘no’ at the altar. That's even in the contract, so they can't do anything to the participants if they decide to opt out of the whole program right away.
Honestly: I look at it a bit differently now, and that's only positive. All the people in the program are there completely voluntarily. You can stop at any moment, although it won't be made entirely easy for you.
‘You need to have a good reason,’ says the producer. ‘Especially because this adventure is all about giving science a chance.’ Aha... Okay... So you can contractually stop at any moment, but you do need a good reason. That contradicts a bit, but I'm really curious now: will we ever get someone who leaves during the ceremony?
