‘Northern Lights most powerful in 20 years’

If witnessing the Northern Lights is still on your bucket list, then this might just be the year to do it. According to scientists, the upcoming season will feature the strongest Northern Lights in twenty years. This means that the chances are very high that when you are in Iceland or for example Lapland , you will be treated to the most beautiful spectacles.
According to scientists, the sun will reach ‘solar maximum’ between January and October 2024, making the Northern Lights the best to see. And that is really unique: the sun's cycle lasts about eleven years, with the peak each time referred to as ‘solar maximum’. However, that is not always a success; the last time was in April 2014 and it was the weakest in a century.
We can be grateful for that now, because that weak edition could actually make this one extra strong, according to Njål Gulbrandsen, who works at the Tromsø Geophysical Observatory. And as if it meant to be is, is Transavia now flying directly from Amsterdam to Tromsø this season. So very affordable and now you really have the chance to witness that Northern Lights.
Although there is also a chance that you won't have to travel all the way to the far north; because the sun is so strong, it can also be seen in other countries. Last November, for example, it was already spotted in England, at Stonehenge. We are probably a bit too far south in the Netherlands, but last year you could also spot it (especially if you filmed with a good camera) one night at the beach. So who knows; maybe we'll get a nice show here in our little country.
