A bit about The Perfect Couple

I'm totally hooked.

the perfect couple

We devoured The Perfect Couple. Bam. Just six episodes in a row. Until 3:00 AM. It had to be off and out. There are undoubtedly nitpickers and sourpusses who have something to complain about. Yes, yes, yes, of course we've seen Nicole Kidman in this capacity before: cold, reserved with underlying enormous wreckage. Think of Nine Perfect Strangers, The Undoing, and recently in Expats. But wasn't she incredibly good in all those roles? And doesn't Nicole Kidman have a knack for picking great scripts? Well then. For me, Nicole Kidman is hugely decisive in choosing something to watch; if she's in it, it's worth watching.

Of course, there are a few areas for improvement in the script. The discovery that the diamond-studded gold bracelet was carefully chosen but not intended for her gave you a huge Love Actually vibe (the square box with the necklace that turned into a Joni Mitchell CD under the Christmas tree). There was also a rather obvious sponsorship moment for Tanqueray, and the detectives were a bit typecast, but still, I'm still dancing a little after this series. And here's why:

So, Nicole Kidman
She is often a bit eerie, but how that woman can portray 17 emotions without words is unprecedented. And then that lovely, ‘rich’ hair and those clothes. Love.

Meghan Fahy who plays the delightful Merritt Monaco
Okay, also here occasionally a bit of a flat portrayal of an Instagram girl, but otherwise it's lovely to see her again after The White Lotus 2. By the way, did you know that in real life she is in a relationship with Leo Woodall, Jack from The White Lotus?

Then the location: Nantucket
Bizarre. I knew Long Island, I knew Montauk, but now I want, need, and will go to Nantucket. And yes, I would love to sleep in that 40 million dollar mansion of the Winbury family.

The dialogues are also quite nice, you know
“I get more out of my teenage children after a school trip,” says a detective after an hour of questioning Greer Winbury (Nicole Kidman).

I want to buy Blanche by Byredo immediately because Merritt Monaco wore it and it is referred to by the chic girls from Nantucket as ‘the best perfume’.

Eve Hewson, who plays Amelie, the woman who is going to marry the rarely rich Benji — of the caliber “I'm-bored-so-I-buy-a-monkey-rich” — and whose bridesmaid gets murdered, plays such a layered beauty. Sometimes Helena Christensen allure, sometimes an everyday American college girl.

Ah, it's just delightful and nice. Maybe I'll start again tonight.
