Proven: single women are happier than single men

By

That women recover from a break-up faster was ‘big news’ last week. But actually, we could have known this, because men are anyway very fond of a dose of self-pity from time to time. Perhaps it also has to do with the fact that women are quite satisfied with being ‘alone’, as shown by a study conducted among 6000 singles.

Women simply enjoy being alone quite a bit

Men have actually done this to themselves that they are not so fond of ‘me time’, which is one of the things that makes me very happy (if I speak for myself). The research clearly showed that women are more satisfied with being single, their sexuality, and their lives overall. What I find striking is that women seem to have less need for a relationship than men. Generally, women have a stronger social safety net and overall more profound relationships besides the relationship with a potential partner. Perhaps less obvious is that women give less priority to their sex life than men. I wouldn't expect there to be a difference between men and women in this regard, but perhaps that is naive of me.

The economy also has a big influence on this

The wage gap may still be present, but women have increasingly started to earn more, so we no longer have to wait (as in the 50s) for the man to come home from the office to get our grocery money handed to us. As Destiny's Child sang in ’Independent Women‘: ’The watch I'm wearing (I bought it), the house I live in (I bought it), the car I'm driving (I bought it), I depend on me (I depend on me)‘. For women, it is simply less ‘necessary’ to enter into a relationship, allowing them to experience more peace and relaxation as singles and take everything ‘as it is’.
