Essential tips to prevent skin irritation after shaving

Shaving seems like a simple task, but your skin sometimes thinks differently. Red rashes, bumps, or a tight feeling are recognizable for many people. Fortunately, there is a lot you can do to reduce that irritation. With a few smart adjustments to your routine, shaving becomes a lot more pleasant. We give you some practical tips for a smooth and soft skin, without hassle.

A good start is half the work

Even before you start shaving, you can do a lot to prevent irritation. Always start with a clean skin; this way, fewer bacteria enter any cuts. Begin by cleaning your skin: use warm water, which softens and opens the pores. This makes shaving more enjoyable.

The shaving itself

Shaving is not a treat for your skin, but you can make it a lot more pleasant. To start: always shave with clean and sharp razors. This is much more comfortable for the skin and also shaves better.

Furthermore, it is important to always use shaving foam or gel. Even if you want to do it quickly, we advise against shaving with just water. This unnecessarily dries out the skin and you also cut yourself faster. If you don't have shaving foam at the moment, opt for a conditioner; it can sometimes be a real lifesaver.

Rinsing with cold water

To prevent skin irritation, it is important to take good care of your skin even after shaving. This starts with rinsing with cold water. This way, you close the pores again and your skin is less sensitive to grease and dirt.

Time for a cream

Now it's time for perhaps the best part: taking care of your skin. We are of course not averse to a bit of skincare, and you can use it well after shaving.

Take care of your skin best with a body lotion. Just make sure to choose a lotion that does not contain perfume or alcohol. You can also opt for a cooling gel or an aftershave balm. A ‘regular’ aftershave often contains alcohol. While the alcohol disinfects, it also dries out your skin. Therefore, it is better to avoid this.

A soft and well-cared-for skin after shaving

Taking good care of your skin is usually not rocket science – it just requires a bit of attention. With the right steps, before, during, and after shaving, you ensure that everything feels pleasant. Make shaving a moment for yourself, and your skin will thank you for it. If you still experience a bit of irritation the next day, it also helps to apply your cream or aftershave again. If irritation persists, you can experiment with other aftershaves or creams.
