Kim Kardashian robbery Paris: how it destroyed her life

and the legal system

By
Yes, people. Did you know that all these stars are secretly narcissists? From Madonna to Bram Moskowicz: these are the biggest.

It was still back in the time when Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were together and Kanye actually seemed like a stable person. Okay, except for that over the top wedding after all. But then her pink world suddenly turned pitch black, because in her hotel room in Paris, Kim Kardashian was brutally robbed. Not a case of: artist outside, burglars break in. No, Kim was just lying in bed when five armed men tied her up, pressed a gun against her temple, and robbed her of millions of euros in jewelry.

Why is the lawsuit only happening now?

The Kim Kardashian robbery in Paris took place in October 2016 (yes, that was almost ten years ago). The French justice system is certainly not known for its speed: think more croissant here, café crème there, and then take some time to read through the files. But seriously: with twelve suspects, hundreds of witness statements, and an international celebrity as the victim, you don’t want to drop the ball as the Public Prosecution Service. That’s why it took until 2025 for this case to finally come to court.

Is Kim Kardashian going to testify?

Big question: will we see Kim Kardashian back in the courtroom? Probably not in person. She has previously indicated how heavily the robbery affected her emotionally. She seriously thought she was dying. During her interrogation, she said: “I literally felt like I was saying goodbye.” So no exaggeration. She will give her statement in writing or via video link, that is the expectation.

What was stolen again?

Okay, flashback to the loot. The robbers made off with jewelry worth about 10 million euros . The biggest score? A 20-carat diamond ring that Kim had just received from Kanye. That ring alone was worth about 4 million euros. And although the robbers managed to sell a few items (on the black market of course), most of it was never recovered.

Who was behind the robbery?

A bizarre detail: the robbery was carried out by a group of retired criminals. The press called them ‘The Grandpa Gang’, because they were all over sixty. Seriously. One of them was even named Omar the Old. If you think it was some kind of Ocean’s Eleven with walkers: these men were anything but slow. They had everything meticulously planned, disguised as police officers and with an escape plan thought out to the last detail.

What is the expected sentence?

The prosecutors in France are demanding heavy sentences: some risk 20 years in prison, especially the man who held Kim during the robbery. The rest face slightly less, depending on their role. In France, they not only look at the actual violence but also at the psychological impact. And Kim has since suffered from anxiety disorders, trusts no hotels anymore, and does not travel without security.

How did this change Kim's life?

The Kim Kardashian robbery in Paris marked the beginning of a new phase in her life. Goodbye to the expensive jewelry on Instagram. Goodbye to showing live locations. Since then, she has been a lot more cautious (okay, for her standards). She also became more involved in social justice and even studied law. Like a kind of Kim 2.0: less bling, more brains.
