I had often heard it buzzing and humming: influencer Michelle Bollen and her polyamorous life. Everyone was curious and luckily there was the broadcast of Het Mooiste Meisje van de Klas yesterday, in which we got a delightful glimpse into her exciting life.

Michelle Bollen

Michelle Bollen is an influencer who started with her blog Bijzonder Klein Wonder. There she wrote about motherhood and everything that comes with it: about her son Morris, about herself. Yesterday she suddenly became somewhat of national news because of her episode in Het Mooiste Meisje van de Klas. She writes about it on her Instagram:

*”Het Mooiste Meisje van de Klas. Actually, I wasn't necessarily that. But that turned out not to be the point of the program at all. I started writing when I was pregnant with Morris. He turns 9 in May. We always had the reins in our own hands. Our story, here, with ourselves and from ourselves. That didn't really change much after coming out as poly. Yes, we chose each other and thus have a different relationship than what we generally consider ‘normal’, so that became part of the whole picture, but we are more than that relationship. More than just a picture. Yes, I am a partner of the two. But I am also a mother. Daughter. Sister. Friend. Entrepreneur. A woman with a backpack, and coincidentally a large family.

And so we made this episode. Because there is always more than just an outside. Because it is okay to show that ‘more’, but also completely okay not to. Because it is not necessary to all have the same vision or opinion, but letting another be valued is so important. A personal document about my life. And that feels vulnerable – and I am not good at that, it turns out again – but the message is one that I really wanted to share, especially for girls and women who come from the same place as I do. That doesn't have much to do with my relationship. It does have to do with holding on to life, believing in – and always staying true to – yourself.”

Unfortunately low viewership

Unfortunately, the episode did not score as high as usual: only 538,000 viewers. And that on NPO1. But I am sure that it doesn't interest Michelle much. As long as she has been able to inspire or open someone, in whatever way, she has achieved her goal. I bow to her bravery.

Let's be honest, we don't know what goes on in most people's bedrooms, and because they happen to do it with three, are we allowed to have an opinion about it? Isn't that strange?
